Ke$ha has an exciting new collaborating with Pitbull, who she was on Tour with this year. "Timber" reminds me of the style Avicii recently did on "Hey Brother" with the Western style mixed with the Club sound. I can't get enough of that harmonica throughout "Timber"!
Miley Cyrus was on Saturday Night Live and was a great sport on teasing herself about all the latest controversial topics surrounding her. My favorite segment was the "We Did Stop (The Government)" that was a sattire to her "We Can't Stop" single. Oh, and the opener, where she addresses her twerking and being warned; I was surprised that I enjoyed this episode as much as I did!
Demi Lovato represents the LGBT community with her character, Dani, that she will be playing on Glee, she appeared last Thursday's episode and should be on at least one more episode (if not more). What do you think of her and Naya Rivera's character Santana on Glee?
Britney Spears' "Work B**ch" has debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 and looks to make its way up the list quickly with 175,000 downloads predicted during its first week. While I'm glad that Britney has new music coming out, I can't say I'm into this single yet - maybe it'll grow on me.
Ed Sheeran posted some unexplained injuries on his Instagram (@TeddysPhotos) this weekend, but to add to his night of excitement, Sheeran and Gavin DeGraw hit up a Karaoke bar to sing "I Don't Wanna Be". I can't imagine being at that bar, that would be one heck of a story, "so I was at Karaoke Kid when Ed Sheeran and Gavin DeGraw walked in to sing a song."
Zedd just released the music video for "Stay The Night", which features Paramore's Hayley Williams and it's the next best thing since she worked with B.o.B.on Airplanes in 2010!
Avicii will be dropping his new album tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17), "True" will be available on iTunes for download. Mix 105.1 is giving you a chance to win a free digital copy of the album, we're giving the secret code out on our Twitter page (@Mix1051Madison).
I've heard the entire album and I'm excited for you to hear it too! Of course, the first single on "True" is "Wake Me Up" which has been getting plenty of radio play for good reason. The other two tracks I would listen for (outside of the entire album) would be (#3) "Hey Brother" and (#4) "Addicted To You". The big takeaway from this album is the diversity of vocalists, from Alternative ("Wake Me Up") to Country ("Hey Brother") to Soul ("Addicted To You"). Regardless of who is featured with the vocals, the fact remains that this is an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) set of songs by Avicii.
Remember, we want to give you the chance to hear this album to! Follow us on Twitter (@Mix1051Madison) to find out the exclusive texting code for your chance to win a digital copy of Avicii's "True" album!
Demi Lovato is slated to release a book in November entitled "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year" which will include tweets that she's shared about her struggles with drug addiction and other topics I'm sure. She signed a mutli-book deal with Feiwel and Friends; she is even working on her own memoir. Hard to believe that someone at the young age of 21 would has so much to write about, but I'm glad she's getting her story out there.
Miley Cyrus has released the (NSFW) music video for "Wrecking Ball" and she bares all while she rides a wrecking ball. I didn't realize she liked sledgehammers so much, maybe she'll be featured in the next Thor movie.
Lady Gaga was on Good Morning America yesterday and performed her new single, "Applause" which included several outfit changes with a Wizard of Oz theme. I liked this performance much more than the one she did on the VMAs, more entertaining in my opinion.
Who's jonesing for some Football? I may not be, but I am definitely ready for a halftime show with Bruno Mars! We just have to wait about 5 months for the game to happen (February 2, 2014). What are your predictions for the halftime? Green Bay Packers with a lead going into the second half!
A new documentary of Justin Bieber is on its way to the theatre, Saturday the film "Believer" was screened to a select group of fans and buyers in Toronto. "Never Say Never" grossed just shy of $100 Million in 2011, I can only imagine how much this new documentary will make - especially with his controversy over the past year!
Katy Perry pulls back the reigns on her album cover, sporting a look that has little to no makeup. I think more artists should go with this realistic approach to cover art! What do you think of the "PRISM" cover?
Miley Cyrus has a new single "Wrecking Ball" out with a teaser on her Twitter account (@MileyCyrus) that shows her sitting atop of a ... well, wrecking ball. I kind of shut her out of my mind after the attention-seeking VMAs performance, but that's right, she still has a new album coming out - "Bangerz".
The newlyweds, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (of Nickelback) have even more exciting news, on November 5th, Avril will be dropping her 5th studio album! She and Kroeger will be on "Let Me Go" together, Rock Ballad anyone? Avril also has a song called "Bad Girl" featuring Marilyn Manson... I'm less excited to hear that one, but I'll hold my judgement until I hear it.
Katy Perry dropped her new music video for "Roar" yesterday afternoon and it is quite a cinematic transformation of a girl from a plane crash, to a worman finding her inner... roar. Best part, the tiger's name is Kitty Purry!
Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" may have been Billboard's Song of the Summer (and yours too!), but soon we'll have forgotten how hot that song was because Katy Perry's "Roar" is now the #1 song on the charts and could easily be up there for 12 weeks too!
Taylor Swift will be featured in the 2014 Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest selling digital single for her hit "We Are Never Getting Back Together" and for being the first female solo artist with two million-selling weeks on the US album chart. She was first featured back in 2010 for being the youngest artist to win the Grammy award for Album of the Year - I'm sure she'll be taking more and more world records in the years to come!
In case you missed the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards last night, you saved yourself from a horrifying Miley Cyrus performance - do yourself a favor and avoid watching the very NSFW twerking performance (you've been warned, but here's the link). Who would have thought she could out-crazy Lady Gaga, who met our expectations while still dancing around that line (Miley blew that line away).
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis also performed their latest single, "Same Love" with Mary Lambert on stage. I wish Jennifer Hudson would have come out on stage sooner, Lambert really seemed to loosen up and sing better towards the end! Bruno Marsperformed his new single "Gorilla" - nothing special. Katy Perryperformed her new single "Roar" - which was a great way to end the show!
The highlight was Justin Timberlake's medley performance that lasted, what, 10 minutes? 10 minutes of pure entertainment!'N SYNC even reunited for 2 of those minutes. I'm not sure JC Chasez has anymore street cred for MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, because 'N SYNC is far from the best dance crew. As quick as JC tried to get his few seconds of TV time, he was gone. Congrats to Timberlake, he has earned the Video Vanguard Award! Shortly after the performance, the teaser for his upcoming album was released. Are you excited?
Click here for the complete list of last night's winners!
Jennifer Lopez may be returning to American Idol as a judge for the 13th season! Though, it was only confirmed by J-Lo's boyfriend (and not the Fox Network), I'm excited for a season without Nicki Minaj. As of right now, Keith Urban is the only returning judge from last season.
Apparently before the passing of Michael Jackson, there was a collaboration recorded with Justin Bieber called "Slave 2 The Rhythm". The song keeps getting pulled off places like SoundCloud and YouTube by Sony Music Entertainment, but for now it is available right here, listen to it while you have a chance. It's a little eerie to hear new MJ music, but I like it and I hope it becomes available on iTunes soon.
Lady Gaga released the music video for "Applause" today, while we've come to expect outrageous and wildly entertaining, this one may be a little more tame in comparison. Or at least that's what I was thinking during the first half of the video - before Gaga was featured a black swan, not literally, her body is that of a swan's. What do you think of her new video?
Justin Timberlake has made his full track list for upcoming album, "The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2", available on his Instagram account. I wonder if track two, "True Blood" will have anything to do with the popular HBO series? Plus, MTV has added him to the lineup of performers for the Music Video Awards; plus, he'll receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award that was last awarded in 2011 to Lady Gaga. I'm surprised it took this long for Timberlake to be acknowledged, but he'll be a great artist to add to the long list of winners.
Not to be left out, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will be performing "Same Love" (I wonder if they'll be joined by Mary Lambert) at the MTV Video Music Awards, if I wasn't excited enough already to see the award show, I am definitely tuning in now (the VMAs will air on Sunday, August 25 at 8pm CST). Plus, Bruno Mars will be debuting new single during the VMAs, I can't get enough of "Treasure" - so I'm excited for more!
Miley Cyrus has set the date for her upcoming album "Bangerz" for Tuesday, October 8th! She said the name for her new album came from the fact that so many of the songs are 'bangers' - I'll admit, I'm excited for the possibility of an album full of hits, even if it is Miley Cyrus.
MTV's Music Video Awards is adding a new category, "Best Song of the Summer" with One Direction, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Robin Thicke's summer hits (among others), not sure how I feel about One Direction being in the lead. Plus, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke have been added to the performance lineup, who are you more excited to see perform? I think I'll be tweeting #VoteThicke.
Lance Bass, former singer of 'N SYNC will be one of the celebrity judges to appear on the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City middle of next month. I don't know about you, but I'm still holding my breath for Honey Boo-Boo to be a guest judge of one of these pageants.
Lady Gaga has finally released her single, "Applause", to her Vevo account on YouTube and it's going to be another hit, no doubt. Though, I was skeptical with the first minute but when the chorus finally hit, I could see why so much excitement has been building around the new album.
Usher had a recent scare when his 5-year-old son nearly drowned in a pool, if it wasn't for two men that were able to free the boy's arm that got caught, there would be a much different story to tell. In light of the situation, ex-wife Tameka Raymond filed legal papers for a custody hearing, which has been set for Friday. To add to Usher's unfortunate luck, this week Jason Derulo's album artwork for "Tattoos" is rumored to be plagerized off of Usher's 2012 album, "Looking 4 Myself". What do you think? Is it too close not to be a coincidence?
Beyonce has joined the ranks of Miley Cyrus and Emma Watson by making a bold move to chop her hair down in a significant way (check out her Instagram picture). Hey Beyonce, I get it, you got your hair caught in a fan - but there must be other comprimises!
John Mayer is working on his sixth studio album, which will feature his latest girlfriend Katy Perry and past collaborator, Frank Ocean; the album will be titled "Paradise Valley" and is due Tuesday, August 20.The lyric music video of "Wildfire" is available, which includes some vocals from Ocean. I'm excited to hear, "Who You Love" with Perry on the track, the question is: will it be a love song like the title suggests, or an upbeat Pop hit that she is known to deliver?
Britney Spears hinted at a new, 8th album, on her Facebook page over the weekend. Well, she did more than just hint, she pretty much announced that she was taking what she has learned over the last 7 albums and putting together the best album yet. I'm curious what these "bonuses" stickers will allude to.
Brace yourself, The Wanted will be all over the place with their new song, "We Own The Night" which came out yesterday, it has a slight Irish drinking song feel to it. The question is, are you more excited about this new song or One Direction's "Best Song Ever"?
Mumford & Sons released their new music video for "Hopeless Wanderer" only, the band isn't in the music video (spoiler alert). Castmembers of "Arrested Development", "SNL", and "The Office" make up the members of the band in this video, and if you don't smirk or bust out laughing at some point while you're watching; something may be seriously wrong - especially when Ed Helms bangs his fists on the piano keys!
Kid Rock dealt with an attempted burglary over the weekend when a guy on crutches tried to ram the artist's home gate with his 'white creeper van' as Kid Rock stated on his website. He offered up $5,000 to anyone that helped to identify the man (I wonder if he ended up paying the tipster), on Saturday the Oakland County Sheriff's Department made an arrest. Don't mess with a rock star that can rally his fans to find criminals!
What would you get if you merged the lyrics of Icona Pop's "I Love It!" with widely popular Blurred Lines' Robin Thicke? You would get a slower (sexier?) version of I Love It sung by Robin Thicke. This version was actually worked into Icona Pop's set during Lollapalooza over the weekend, for those that haven't heard it yet - I'm sure it came as quite a shock (delightfully so).
Imagine Dragons is out with their official music video to their song, "Demons" and it puts you right into one of their concerts. It also highlights a glimpse of the life of four fans, which showed a darker side (hence, demons) of what the lyrics may inspire their fans to overcome. At the end of the video, there is a plug for TylerRobinsonFoundation.com with the crowd and Imagine Dragons singing a clip of "It's Time."
One Direction's new single, "Best Song Ever" hits Billboard's Hot 100 at Number 2 today, just behind Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines". I don't know if this is the 'best song ever' but I have a feeling we will be hearing this song a lot over the next few months.
Selena Gomez is also on the rise, in fact, she can't go much higher than #1... which is where her album, "Stars Dance," is currently sitting, right above Jay-Z. I'm not surprised to see Gomez on top of the charts, have you heard her new single, "Come and Get It" yet?
Taylor Swift sang a duet with one of her heroes, Carly Simon, over the weekend in Foxborough, Massachusetts; the two sang Simon's hit "You're So Vain" which Swift says is the most direct way to address a breakup via song - that says a lot, coming from the breakup queen herself!
The internet has been abuzz around Lady Gaga 's risque album cover (NSFW-ish) for the highly-anticipated release of her upcoming album, "ARTPOP" (out on November 11, 2013). She recently released the artwork for her upcoming single, "Applause," which can definitely be considered 'artwork', as it would appear that Lady Gaga's face was the canvas.
Katy Perry will also be coming out with a new album; "Prism" is said to be coming out on October 22, which has been prominently displayed on the streets of Los Angeles via a giant golden truck.
Justin Timberlake just released the official music video for "Take Back the Night," the first single off of his upcoming album, "The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2." The followup album is scheduled to drop on September 30, 2013 (pre-order it here).
