The Wind-Up & The Pitch

This happened over the weekend, but it's worth watching.

105-year-old Agnes McKee became the oldest person ever to throw out a first pitch at a baseball game.

She practiced the pitch at her retirement home in San Diego, and on her birthday, took to the field at San Diego's Petco Park to open the game between the Padres and the Mets.

And yes, as the video says, her throw was a lot better than the one that caused 50 Cent so much shame…

Orange Jumpsuits Now Fashionable, So...

Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel went out and bought some new prison jumpsuits for the inmates at his Michigan jail to replace the traditional orange ones of the past.

They've got black and white horizontal stripes. It's because the sheriff noted the people are now wearing orange jumpsuits "out at the mall or in public," and he doesn't want his inmates confused with the general population.

The fashion trend, according to the sheriff, is because of the popularity of shows like Orange Is The New Black. "Some people think it's cool to look like an inmate," he said.

So now the inmates at the Saginaw County Jail look a lot like the guy on the Get Out of Jail Free card in Monopoly.

The Kardashian Kristmas Kard?

It's hard to say that one Instagram photo is stranger than the others, especially when it comes to the Kardashians.

But I think KardashiMom Kris Jenner just planted her flag at the top of Mount Strange.

Check out this photo…

The message is to her three girls – Kim, Khloe and Kourtney – and says simply, "I miss you guys so much."

So much, that the picture shows the four of them, ostensibly topless, posing in a swimming pool.

It looks like there's some major league photo-editing here, and that makes it even more strange.

Here's $10 that says she slaps Santa caps on all four of them and sends this out as the family holiday greeting.

George Harrison's Memorial Tree Destroyed By...

In 2004, a pine tree was planted in Griffith Park in Los Angeles to honor George Harrison, one of the original Beatles. George spent his final days in LA, and according to most, he was an avid gardener, so the memorial was fitting.

Planted as a sapling, it grew to about 10 feet by last year. But this year, the tree was attacked by insects, and destroyed.

The insects: beetles.

Tree beetles, to be precise.

No need to look up "irony" ever again – this is the definition, right here.

Off to the Big Top in the Sky?

Hollywood is buzzing with the thought that one of the major characters on The Simpsons, Krusty the Clown, will be killed off in the show's Season 26 premiere in September.

The show's producer has promised that there will be a major death, and says that the actor who voices the doomed character has won an Emmy. That plus the title of the season opener – "Clown in the Dumps" – has everyone thinking it will be Krusty.

Krusty is voiced by Dan Castellaneta, who also voices Homer Simpson – and he has in fact won an Emmy.

Will it happen? Will Krusty shuffle off to join Brian from Family Guy in the cartoon cemetery? (Yes, I know, Brian's departure was temporary.)

The producer says, "I didn't say I was killing Krusty… I didn't say I wasn't."

Televised Geeks

Some sort of threshold has been crossed. Over the weekend, The International was held in Seattle. It's the ultimate challenge in electronic sports – aka, e-sports.

Video game players and teams from around the world competed for prizes. And – hang onto your joystick – ESPN provided online streaming coverage of the whole thing on ESPN3.

I'm sorry, that just sounds a little wacky to me. Video coverage of some guys playing video games?

On the other hand, it does save me a trip to the local arcade.

The prizes at the tournament, by the way, were enormous. Close to $11 million. Yes, $11 million.

And now we know just how much it takes to get these gamers out of their parents' basements.

... Not That There's Anything Wrong With That...

Jenny McCarthy was fired from The View a few weeks ago.

But it looks like the show's definition of "fired" is "when we come back from hiatus, you won't."

She and the-also-fired Sherri Shepherd are still on the panel, and on Tuesday's show, Jenny had some interesting comments about former First Lady, Hilary Clinton.

The View Crew was interviewing a former Secret Service agent who's written a tell-all about the "hidden lives" of the presidents. In it, he claims that Bill Clinton has a mistress nicknamed "Energizer."

Sherri didn't believe it, saying that Bill and Hilary always seem "to be so in love."

Jenny suggested that maybe the two have an arrangement where "he has his girlfriends, and she has her girlfriends."

Whoopi Goldberg jumped into the fray, saying you can't get between the Clintons…

So many ways to misconstrue that…

3-Day Work Week? Yes, Please!

The second-richest man in the world says we should all be working no more than three days a week.

Carlos Slim (yes, that's his real name!) is the CEO of Telmex, a telecommunications giant. At a conference in Paraguay recently, he said it's time for a "radical overhaul" in the way people work.

The three-day work week comes with a catch. You wouldn't be able to retire until you were 70 or 75 years old.

Since that's already true for most of us anyway, yes, please, I'll take that three-day work week.

Weird Al Done?

Weird Al Yankovic is amazed at the buzz he created with the release of one video a day for eight days from his Mandatory Fun album.

Pretty cool stuff to choose from –personally, I think the best is Word Crimes, the parody of Blurred Lines, with Tacky (the parody of Happy) running a close second.

But here's an interesting bit of news: Weird Al says this could be his last album. "It's the end of my record deal. I've been under contract since 1982."

Not to worry. Just because there are no more albums DOESN'T mean there's no more Weird Al. He promises some singles – at the very least.
